Traditional Fish & Chips · Italian Ice Cream

Our Story

My name is Stephen and along with my wife Carolina we have ran the Forehill Café for the last 15 years ably supported by Eddi and his team.

Family History

My grandfather emigrated to Scotland in the early 1900s from the south of Italy. He opened his first shop in the east end of Glasgow a few hundred yards down from Celtic Park, and he lived above the shop, with my grandmother and their eight children; my father being the youngest.

My mother's father came from Ireland and after a successful playing career with Celtic took over my grandmother's parents' café famous for its ice cream at Townhead, Glasgow.

My father expanded on his own and in the sixties opened up on Buchanan Street,Glasgow, and ended up with seven businesses in that area; all fish & chip shops and restaurants.

My brother moved to Ayr nearly 30 years ago, and 20 years ago I also moved to to the area.

Forehill Café

I took over the Forehill Café from Antonio Spanno 15 years ago, a likeable man, who has since sadly passed away, and have ran the business with my wife Carolina ever since. We have been very fortunate to have had good people working with us for the last twenty years; Eddi, Lizzi, and John to name a few. We couldn't have managed without them!

Our Aims

  • To provide top quality food, that's well cooked, and served as efficiently as possible.
  • To provide a clean modern environment.
  • To source sustainable raw product.
  • To support local community.

On behalf of Carolina, Eddi, the team, and myself; I would like to thank our loyal customers who have supported us over the years, even when we don’t always get things quite right.
Thanks for your patience and understanding.

We hope to serve you soon at Forehill Café.

Did you know?

A fish supper has the least amount of fat per 100g than all other takeaway food. In fact, an average fish supper has only 595 calories. Compare that to a donner kebab which has 942 calories or burger and fries which has 888 calories and you can easily see why fish and chips are still so popular!
